Claude Desktop

Send Claude Desktop's model requests to NoviaHub with its official third-party inference mode — install, enable Developer Mode, set up the gateway, choose models and troubleshoot.

Claude Desktop is Anthropic’s desktop app. It officially supports a third-party inference deployment mode (Claude Desktop on 3P) that routes all model requests through a provider you configure, including a compatible gateway you use. This mode covers Chat, Cowork and Code. The official docs are aimed mainly at organizations but also document a single-machine setup, which this page follows.

Claude Desktop calls models over the Anthropic Messages protocol (it needs POST /v1/messages with streaming and tool use), which NoviaHub supports.

Prerequisites

  • A NoviaHub API key (see API Keys) and some balance (see Wallet and top-ups).
  • macOS 14 or later, or Windows 10 (build 19041) or later.

Install

Section titled “Install”

Download from claude.com/download:

  • macOS: the .dmg installer.
  • Windows: the .msix installer. The docs say Cowork needs the .msix build, not the .exe.

Configure NoviaHub

Section titled “Configure NoviaHub”

  1. Open Claude Desktop. Do not sign in or create an Anthropic account.

  2. From the menu, choose Help → Troubleshooting → Enable Developer Mode.

  3. Then choose Developer → Configure Third-Party Inference…. On Windows, this menu is behind the ☰ button in the top-left of the sign-in screen.

  4. In Connection, set Inference provider to Gateway, then fill in:

    Gateway auth scheme Keep the default Bearer (NoviaHub’s /v1/messages also accepts x-api-key; either works)

    The docs’ example gateway address is a bare domain without /v1, so enter https://noviahub.com.

  5. Click Apply Changes, then Save & Restart. Claude Desktop restarts and uses NoviaHub.

To go back to an Anthropic account later, choose the Anthropic sign-in option on the sign-in screen.

Choose models

Unless you list models yourself, Claude Desktop requests the gateway’s GET /v1/models and only shows IDs that are recognizably Claude. NoviaHub’s /v1/models only returns the models your key can use.

On 2026-09-28 NoviaHub’s Claude models were claude-opus-5-5, claude-opus-5, claude-sonnet-5, claude-haiku-4-5, claude-fable-5-1, claude-fable-5 and claude-opus-4-8. Models change; Models & Pricing is authoritative. If the key has Model Limits, only the allowed models appear.

Verify and troubleshoot

  • Send a message in a chat. A normal answer means it works; the call also appears under Usage Logs in NoviaHub.
  • If something is wrong, choose Help → Troubleshooting → Generate Diagnostic Report → Export to file, and look at provider-status.txt and deployment-mode.txt in the report.
  • Gateway was unreachable means Claude Desktop cannot reach the gateway address. Check that Gateway base URL is https://noviahub.com and that your network can reach NoviaHub.
  • The configuration is stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude-3p/configLibrary/ on macOS and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Claude-3p\configLibrary\ on Windows.
